How can I show media download link next to media player on my posts?
I would like to provide a download link right next to my media, along with the player. How do I set that up. I can’t find any info about it.
The podcast in question is http://healthbusinessblog.com/category/podcast

Hi there,
You can follow the instructions on this page to create a media download link in your posts (the process is the same for documents and audio files): Uploading Documents
If you have any questions about this, please let me know!

Hi,
So there’s no way to configure it so the media player, which shows up automatically to display a download link as well?
That’s pretty lame. It would be a pain even if starting a new podcast, but I’m importing a site with almost 200 existing podcasts. You’re saying to add a download link, I’d have to edit each one?
This seems like really common functionality. It’s hard to believe there’s no way to handle it programmatically.

You can see all of the options for adding audio and configuring the media player on this page: Audio
Currently the audio player is designed to default to a download link if the user’s browser does not support the player, but there isn’t a way to automatically add a download link in addition to the audio player. It’s an interesting idea, though! I made a note of this suggestion for us to consider in future features and updates.

Actually, it seems like a no brainer & simple to implement. I see there’s a javascript upgrade option on the vip account. Is there any supported way to inject javascript with or without upgrade for mere mortal accounts?
So far wordpress.com is proving to be pretty neutered. Too bad the documentation wasn’t more forthright & upfront about it’s capabilities or more importantly, lack thereof.
Thanks

Hi there,
We do not allow JavaScript on WordPress.com blogs for security reasons. You can read more about this here: Code
I’m sorry you are disappointed with the move to WordPress.com. There are definitely pros and cons to consider when choosing between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, and we try to outline the major differences on this page: WordPress.com and WordPress.org
If there are specific differences that you think could be clarified on that page or elsewhere, please let us know.

Ironic that you request specific differences when my primary complaint is there are no specifics in any of those marketing pages. Some details on what can and can’t be done would be a great improvement.
For example, it seems inadequate to say “no need to install plugins” when what you mean is “very limited flexibility & primarily suited for simple blogs, so no plugins allowed”. But here’s a short list for to start on:
- No support for migrating existing podcasts
- No support for feedburner conditional redirects
- No support for tracking category based feeds – ie the recommended podcast configuration
- No support for CSS customizations, without upgrade
- No support for any JS – except on expensive enterprise accounts
- …
With a little effort, I can come up with many more and happily will, once some of these details are explicitly added to your comparison page. When should I check back on those corrections?
Thanks

Thank you for that feedback. We can’t fit details about every feature on the comparison page, but we do try to include relevant links and additional information in our support pages about specific topics. I will pass your comments on to our team to see what we can do!
