media uploads

I have never been able to upload images to my media library that are in any format other than .jpg. I know that I am supposed to be able to upload lots of formats but they all appear as a default image in my library. It is beyond frustrating and I have been trying for about a year to figure this out on the site and still can’t upload non-.jpg images. I must have some setting wrong, can you help? Thanks.

Hi Betsy, what types of image formats are you trying to upload? We should definitely be able to accept other common graphic formats, including GIF and PNG. Just let me know what type you’re trying to upload and we’ll take it from there. Thanks!

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. We use this blog as our neighborhood website, so I get some .docx, .doc, .pdf as well as .jpg documents to load onto the page. I have tried using both Safari and Firefox to access the site. I have had other people try to load images. I feel a bit like an idiot as it should be so easy. -
Hi there, those three types are among the file types that we accept, as you can see here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/accepted-filetypes/
I’m going to try some tests in your media library, so if you see some unexpected files there, it’s just me. :-)

Hi there – I’ve just uploaded a .doc, .docx, and .pdf file to your media library, as you can see here:
https://ohcniantic.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
I’d like to find out a bit more what happens when you try uploading one of these files. Could you let me know in detail exactly what you do, and what you see?
Just to be very clear, you cannot embed these file types within a post the same way you can embed an image – you can only link to the document. You can only embed image file types like GIF, JPG or PNG.

Hi,
This may be the problem. I see that I can add a link to a file, but we are using this blog as our website and I want to be able to have the actual document visible on the page when people visit it. I am not the most savvy blogger, so I just go to my dashboard, go to my media library tab on the left side and click on ‘add media’. When I add the image, it looks like a default image of a text page if it’s not a .jpg file, and I am not able to put it in my media library so I can then insert the image onto a page. It will just show text. So am I not able to insert anything but .jpg images onto my pages? I don’t want to create a new post or page but to imbed (I guess that is the word) the actual image onto the existing pages. -
Hi there, you can embed image files like GIF, PNG, or JPG directly through the Visual Editor.
If you want to try embedding a PDF or .doc file into the page, you might check out a service called Scribd:

Just let me know if you need further help.
