Menu Button for Android Version is No Longer Working
-
Hi WP,
Mobile sites for the Triton Lite template are not working properly. The menu button used to work fine, but in two different browsers on my Driod RAZR phone (the default browser and Chrome), the menu button no longer works. Android recently did an update to the OS, now using Android 4.1.2 Web-top version wt-3.0.0.
I have three sites using Triton Lite. Encountering the same problem on all three sites. Sure would hate to have to completely redesign them!

You won’t need to re-design them. The mobile theme you have enabled at Appearance -> Mobile in your blog’s Dashboard is the same no matter what theme you use, and it can’t be customized beyond the options on that page.
Did the issue start right after the Android OS update? Also, do you see the same problem in the mobile Chrome browser (it’s usually a few steps ahead of the built-in Android browser)?

Hi MacManx … Thanks for the quick response. As I mentioned above, the problem exists in both the Android default browser and in Chrome.
Just converted PhotosFromTheRoad.Com to the Hatch theme. It has the exact same problem, but that was before I read your comment that all themes use the same mobile site design.
So I’m now guessing something in the Android OS update recently changed the way the browsers are reading the menu functions from WP mobile sites.
As for when it started exactly, I can’t say. Only noticed it today. The Android update was pretty recent, sometime in the past week or so.

Thank you too.
As long as you guys are looking into the Android app, how about a quick feature request?
As a photographer, it would be really cool if the key image from blog posts showed on the blog page. On static pages, images show up fine. Just not on the blog roll.

We’re looking into this, but so far my colleagues have not been able to reproduce the problem.
As for images, try setting a featured image: http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/

Ummm … silly me … JavaScript was disabled in both of my browsers. The menu is working fine now. Apologies!
As for the images, all of my posts have Featured Images, although I have not made any of the posts sticky.
-
They don’t need to be Sticky to display the featured image in the mobile theme.
Or, are you referring to the standard theme?
-
No … the mobile theme. I am using static home pages, but have a menu item for the blog roll. I am only showing Summaries on the blog roll so that users will click to view post pages. Just tested changing the setting to show Full text. That did not fix the issue.
-
Oh, I see what you mean, sorry.
Yes, if you just show an excerpt, images won’t be displayed. You’d have to display the full post of images to be visible, or use the Image post type, which is really only designed for posts with a single image and very little text.
-
Changing the Reading setting to Full Text did not make a difference. Go to PhotosFromTheRoad.Com in the mobile browser. Click on the Blog menu item (2nd from the top in the pull down menu). You will not see any photos on that page, yet you will see them on any other page.

I see them when the excerpts are disabled. Here’s a screenshot: http://d.pr/i/Ob1n/4fdhEnVh

There must have been a delay, or the old version was cahced. They just showed to me as well. But a style choice I made a long time ago was to limit to summaries because with so many photos in each post, the scrolling becomes too much, and I just don’t know how many posts people will go through that way. With summaries, I think visitors will be more likely to wander back through and select posts that interest them. I’m also noticing that my Driod RAZR is getting hot after scrolling through multiple posts. So, I’m going to go back to Summaries. And my original feature request, it would be nice to show a Summary with the Featured Image.
And … BTW … I’m impressed with the attentiveness, not just from you on this thread, but each time I have contacted WordPress support. You guys do a great job! :)

You’re welcome!
We’ll definitely see what we can do about getting featured images with excerpts.
