· in site title
-
I have a · before and after my site title (Settings > General > Site Title), so it should, and used to, show “· TAPPAN ·”. But last week sometime, the dots disappeared when I checked on my Macbook (so now it’s just “TAPPAN”), in either Firefox or Chrome, although they still show up on my iPhone (4S), in either Chrome or Safari. I hadn’t changed anything in settings, they just disappeared.
I cleared my MacBook’s cache and cookies, still no luck.
I wondered if my Macbook is just getting old (2008) and my browsers aren’t displaying properly (Chrome no longer supports OS 10.5.8, which I have), but I do have control over the site title, and my changes, if I don’t use the ·, show up correctly on my computer.
Why the sudden prejudice against the · character? How can I bring them back?
Note: the “·” · character is not the same as the “•” • character. Bullets, or •, do show up if I use them. I just don’t like the look.
Also the date format on my posts refuse to update according to my specs. (I want to use “2 Oct ’12” instead of “Oct 2 2012”, that kind of thing.)
Thanks.

I don’t have a clue why people are inserting special characters into blog titles. they don’t belong there. They have specific meanings to search spiders and have always steered away from doing that in my blogs. I flagged this thread for a Staff response.

I see the dots correctly in both Firefox and Chrome here.
Please try clearing your browser’s cache: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

Point taken about SEO. But I’m still concerned that my edits aren’t showing up properly, including the date format.

Huh. As I said I cleared my cache & refreshed, still not working for me — is it just my old computer? Firefox is up to date. Maybe it’s irrelevant as I “should” remove special characters from the title anyway.

I suppose so, I’m not sure.
I see the title correctly in Firefox 15.0.1: http://cl.ly/image/2K2w0e3p0424
and Chrome 22.0.1229.79: http://cl.ly/image/0d2H2x1X0846

Oh I was referring to the top of the page (not on the tab), just above the subtitle, where it’s all caps.

Thank you both for your help on that.
How does the date format look to you?
Oct 2 2012
– or –
2 Oct ’12I’ve set it to be the latter, but I don’t see it.

The data visible on the posts is in the format of “Oct 02 2012”.
This is hard-coded by your theme and cannot be changed, but you can see your set date format on the comments.
