Migrate its site to WP.org

    Hello,

I’m belgian and I don’t speak english very well. I used google translate to translate my request into english. So.. sorry if there are faults

8 days ago (October 11), I made a mistake as a beginner. Wanting to create a professional site, I chose the premium subscription of WordPress.com and I paid 96 € for one year.

Unfortunately, I completely forgot the difference between WordPress.org and WP.com.

After inquiring, I concluded that WP.com was not going to agree, let alone the subscription to 8 € / month that does not even offer tools for SEO, nor customization unlimited design or additional extensions.

I should have inquired before but I do not know anything at all.

    My questions are:

    1) Can we ask WP.com to refund the subscription?
    2) Is it possible to migrate its site to WP.org, if so what should be done for that? Is it possible to keep the purchased domain name on WP.com?

Sorry if I’m not clear. As I said, I do not understand much about it and I am afraid of making a mistake that would be detrimental to my professional activity and visibility on the web.

Thank you for your answers !

  • Good Morning –

Yes, we can help. I have removed the plan upgrade and refunded €78. That money should reach you in about ten days.

The remaining €18 that was not refunded is for your domain registration. That has to be cancelled with in 48 hours of purchase to be eligible for a refund.

The domain is registered through WordPress.com and will stay with us. To use it at another provider, such as on WordPress.org, you just need to update the name servers on the domain to point to your new hosting provider.

Click on My Sites – Manage – Domains – Edit – DNS

More details on that process are on this page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/

After 60 days you can transfer the domain away from WordPress.com and to a different registrar. The 60 day hold period is an ICANN regulation, not ours. This is not necessary though, the domain can remain registered with us.

These steps outline the process to move from WordPress.com to WordPress.org:

Write back with more questions. The Google Translation worked great.
