Migrating a site overwrote my site and now it’s gone
-
I had a website already running on WordPress, but I also had an old site on Wix that I wanted to import some content from. I thought I was just creating a new site when I tried to migrate my Wix website, but when I migrated, it instead overwrote my WordPress website, and now it’s all gone. Please, please help. Is there anyway I can get it back? I’ve had it for a few years and have been building it gradually. I’m on a free plan, so it doesn’t seem to have backup. But since it just happened a couple of hours ago, isn’t there an undo button or something I can do?

Hi! I completely understand how stressful this is — don’t panic, there may still be hope since this just happened a few hours ago.
Here’s what to try immediately:
- Check your Posts and Pages right now — go to your dashboard and look under Posts > All Posts and Pages > All Pages. Sometimes migrated content doesn’t fully overwrite everything and your old posts may still be there as drafts.
- Check your Trash — go to Posts > Trash and Pages > Trash. Overwritten content sometimes ends up there and can be restored.
- Contact WordPress.com support URGENTLY at wordpress.com/help/contact — explain that a migration just overwrote your site within the last few hours and ask if they can restore from a server-side backup. Even on free plans WordPress.com sometimes keeps short-term server snapshots that staff can access. The sooner you contact them the better your chances.
- Check Google Cache — search your site URL on Google and click the cached version. You may be able to copy content from there.
- Check the Wayback Machine at web.archive.org — type in your site URL and see if any recent snapshots were saved.
Act fast and contact support immediately — time is critical here!
Hope you get it back!
