migrating to/from
-
Hi. Trying to use WordPress to build a new site for a charity. This charity has a basic website currently hosted by TSO, whose website says it takes WordPress built ones. WordPress says I can do this and they will charge a basic fee if I migrate – knowing I am trying to set up on a current web address. As I try to work through the WordPress startup process I keep being directed to creating a personal site or higher paid one, which is not what I need or want. What is the way through for this? Should I have gone to TSO first? Any help out there.

Hi there,
WordPress says I can do this and they will charge a basic fee if I migrate
WordPress is the name of a piece of software. It’s not a company or organisation, and is is completely free to download and use, so whoever you spoke to was not “WordPress”.
There are two main ways to use that software:
1) You create a site with us on WordPress.com. We use a modified version of the WordPress software where we take care of all the technical maintenance, while you can just focus on your site itself.
You can use WordPress.com for free, and you only need to upgrade to a paid plan if you need the additional features included in a plan.
To get started, go to https://wordpress.com/start/site/ and follow the steps to create a new free site, and you can learn how everything works at https://learn.wordpress.com/
2) You can use the regular free WordPress software at another hosting provider like Tsohost where your current site is. You can host a WordPress site at Tsohost, in which case you’ll be paying them a hosting fee like you’re already paying for the current site, but using the WordPress software itself is free.
Tsohost might charge an additional cost to specifically provide support for that software, but that would be between you and them.
For help on using that version of WordPress, please post here instead:
