Migration to WordPress
-
Good morning,
I am currently in the middle of running maintenance on a site created using the free version of wordpress along with some extra third party coding.
I am wondering if there is a way to migrate this site to a full wordpress account so the maintenance side of things will have a full set of settings I can use primarily for batch importing meta/alt/desc./caption text.
Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated. -
Yes, you can move the site to us following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/
-
Unfortunately the Tools section of my current website is empty. There are no options at all.
-
@knylander can you let us know what version you’re running, and where? If it’s relatively up to date it should have tools, but it’s possible that’s been disabled through a plugin or a host’s setting.
-
Currently running 5.2.4
No plugins added as to the best of my knowledge there were never any tools/plugin capabilities from the start.
Checking on page host now – will update this as soon as I get the info on their back-end. (Not my page – helping out a friend). -
Hmm, the exporter is a standard feature of the WordPress software, so if you’re not seeing it, you’re either using a modified version of WordPress, or you’re not logged in as a user with admin permissions on the site.
You might get better help troubleshooting exactly why that option is missing for you over in the WordPress.org forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
WordPress.com itself uses a modified version of the WordPress software, and the people over there who work with the unmodified open source version every day are better informed on the different nuances and quirks that could cause something like this.
