Migration Troubles

I created a temporary site on WordPress so that I could tinker without interrupting my primary site. Now I’m trying to migrate it to my GoDaddy domain (using their ‘Hosting & WordPress’ service) and it’s repeatedly telling me ‘The username or password you entered is incorrect. If you believe the credentials you entered are correct, we recommend disabling any security plugins on your site and trying again.’ I’ve checked my WordPress username, password, and security settings repeatedly to no avail. What’s going wrong?

  • Hi there,

A WordPress.com site cannot be migrated to another platform in this way. That importer from GoDaddy only works on stand-alone WordPress sites created with the open source version of WordPress found on WordPress.org.

The only way to migrate a WordPress.com site somewhere else is by exporting it as explained in https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/, and that will only export the content, nothing else.
