Missed my domain renewal! How can I renew?

    Hi, I found out I missed last date to renew my domain. This account had an old email address I rarely check anymore. How can I renew my domain? There isn’t an option to anymore and when I try to purchase it as a new domain it says its still registered.

    That domain has already been removed from our system and is currently in redemption with our registrar. It is still possible for me to recover the domain at this point, but our registrar charges a $80 fee to restore a domain from redemption. I’ll need you to agree to that fee before I can get the recovery process started.

    I did click the upgrade link last night and paid the $99 yearly fee. Is this different to recover the domain?
    Also, now I am getting a message saying “DNS configuration required.” How do I proceed from there?

  • The $99 you paid was for a WordPress.com Premium Plan, and you added a domain mapping as part of it for your domain, instead of renewing the domain.

    Because the domain is in redemption it’s impossible to renew it yourself at this point. The domain is no longer on our system, and the only way to renew it is if our registrar manually restores it to our account, and for that they charge the $80 fee. So the plan you bought cannot help to renew your domain at this point.

    I can either send you a payment link to pay the redemption fee, then once the domain is restored the Premium Plan on your site will renew the domain and you’ll have the Premium Plan and domain on your site.

    Or I can use your Premium Plan payment for the redemption instead. Then we’ll remove the plan from your site, and you’ll have only the domain as you had before it expired.

    Thank you so much for your help. I’d like to get the domain up and running asap so let’s apply the premium plan payment toward the redemption.

  • I’ve emailed our registrar to restore the domain. I’ll let you know as soon as they do that.

    If you were using the domain with a site hosted elsewhere, once the domain is restored it should reconnect to that site and you’ll be able to access it again. In some cases it’s necessary to reconnect the domain on the hosting provider’s end, but most of the time everything works again as soon as the domain is restored.

  • The domain was restored yesterday evening (for me at least), yes. I’ve also added the necessary subscriptions back to your account on our end so you can mange the domain from My Site ->Domains, so everything is back to before now.
