Missing Sidebar / Comments

Newbie Help please
1) I am struggling to get the sidebar to appear on my posts. I have removed the HTML from the main area of my first two pages and the sidebar still does not appear. It does appear on my single page post. ocasionally I get both blogs come up one underneath the other and the sidebar does appear in these circumstances. (I am not sure what I do to have both come up in a line as opposed to one at a time)
2) I am also seeking to turn the comments boxes of. I have unticked a fair number of things under discussion but still it appears.
Can you put me right

(1) It’s not possible to enable a sidebar on the single post view for this theme.
Different themes work differently, so you might want to browse our theme showcase for a theme that works to your liking.
(2) To disable commenting for all future pages and posts, go to Settings > Discussion, and uncheck the boxes that say “Allow people to post comments on new articles” and “Allow link notifications from other blogs”.
To disable comments on posts and pages that are already published, open one for editing, locate the Discussion module on the page, and uncheck the boxes that say “Allow comments” and “Allow trackbacks and pingbacks”.
