Missing subscribers

Has anyone noticed their subscriber counts dropping? I’ve lost twelve subscribers overnight, and as far as I know, I haven’t done anything that would cause this.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Oh, that’s a good point–I bet I had some spammers and dead accounts. My site views haven’t dropped (they’ve gone up, actually), so that makes sense. Thanks so much for your help!

Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out about this; I completely understand how concerning it can be to see your subscriber count drop unexpectedly.
This drop is likely the result of a database cleanup we recently performed on WordPress.com. We removed subscriptions that were tied to WordPress.com accounts that had been permanently deleted by their owners. These were essentially inactive, empty accounts that could no longer interact with your site in any way — they weren’t real, active readers.
A few important things to note:
- Email subscriptions were not affected. Only WordPress.com account-based subscriptions linked to deleted accounts were removed. Anyone who was actively following your site and receiving your posts via email is still subscribed.
- No active subscribers were lost. The accounts removed had already been deleted by their owners, so they were no longer real followers of your site.
- Your actual reach hasn’t changed. The people who read and engage with your content are still there — the number just now reflects a more accurate count.
If you notice a specific subscriber who you believe was active and is now missing, please let us know and we can look into it further.
I hope that helps clarify things! Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.
