Misspelled domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

I just created a domain, but I misspelled the URL and domain name. Please help me! The current one is cathiscastle.com (and cathiscastle.wordpress.com). I need it to be cathiescastle.com (and cathiescastle.wordpress.com). Whether I look on Youtube, WordPress Forums, or else where, nothing helps.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

When you register a new domain, you get ownership of the exact domain name that you registered. There isn’t an option to change the name — you have to cancel the misspelled domain (cathiscastle.com) and then register the one you actually want (cathiescastle.com).

I went ahead and cancelled the misspelled domain name for you, and restored your domain credit so you can register the one you want. You can go to Store > Domains in your dashboard and enter cathiescastle.com under “Register or Map a Domain Name.”

Please let me know if you have any questions about that! :)

Thank you, but now I think I am more confused. In my attempts to do it myself, I had already mapped cathiescastle.com to my primary domain, cathiscastle.wordpress.com.

So, now that cathiscastle.com doesn’t exist, how do I move my site/content to cathiescastle.com? (It is also the exact same as cathiscastle.wordpress.com.) I’ll continue to look and try and figure it out myself. I’m a little busy right now though.

Also, how important is it to keep cathiscastle.wordpress.com if I am going to create multiple sites in the future? I probably don’t want everything tied to that domain name or site. I’m just learning WordPress, so I am a little green. Thank you.

Sorry if I confused you with this! You had the custom domain cathiscastle.com linked to your WordPress.com site at cathiscastle.wordpress.com. All of the content is saved with your free WordPress.com address cathiscastle.wordpress.com, but using a custom domain means that visitors will see the custom domain in their address bar (instead of the free address).

Now that you have cathiescastle.com, that address will be the one that is linked to your site content. The content is still saved at cathiscastle.wordpress.com, but you can get to it using your custom domain — you don’t need to move anything to use the custom domain with your site.

If that’s still a bit confusing, you can learn more about how domains work in these blog posts:

Your site content is all saved at cathiscastle.wordpress.com right now. If you’d like, you can start a new site at any time by logging in to your WordPress.com account and going to this link: https://wordpress.com/signup/

Any new sites you create will be completely separate from your existing site. Please let me know if you have any other questions about how that works. :)
