Mobile site not rendering properly

  • Unknown's avatar

twostepsforward.us does not render ‘mobile friendly’ yet the actual wordpress.com site it points to does. We use the same theme for workflowalnalyticsllc.com and it works fine but in this case the domain is registered through wordpress. Initially I thought it had something to do with domain masking but we have other sites ( thebittlecode.com , acousticloungemusic.com ) through the same registrar, with forwarding and masking and they both function correctly (though these use different themes). A cursory ‘diff’ of page text does not show a difference, but we may have missed something.

  • Hi there,

Domain masking will indeed prevent your site from appearing correctly on mobile. Domain masking essentially runs your site in an iframe on another website, and how your site renders will depend on the dimensions to which that frame is set. That iframe prevents a browser from actually detecting the screen size of the device someone uses to view your site, so the site cannot adjust accordingly.

Domain masking can also prevent stats from being tracked correctly, prevents us from serving your site over https, and can interfere with the functioning of the admin bar and several widgets. We do not recommend domain masking as a method to connect a domain to your site and we do not provide support for issues caused by domain masking.

I see you’ve received help in live chat to add a domain mapping to your site. The domain is not set as the primary domain, though, so your site currently shows at the free WordPress.com address. You can update the primary domain via My Site ->Domains.
