Mobile theme switch options??
-
Is there any way I can use a different template for mobile devices than what I use for viewing my site on computers?
I love the way my site looks like on the computer, but on mobile devices, you can hardly see any pictures…..and it is a photography website. I need this changed. Is it possible?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
The Photographer theme you’re using is a responsive theme, which means it’s designed to adjust to the size of the device your site’s visitors are using. However, if you don’t like how that looks, you can enable our mobile theme.
To do that, you can go to Appearance > Mobile in your dashboard. Next to Enable mobile theme, select “Yes” and then click the Update button to save your changes. You can also see some additional settings for the mobile theme on that page.
Please let me know if I can provide any further help with this. :)

Thanks! That was certainly a step in the right direction. But the picture quality is downgraded hugely on mobile devices. Are there themes or settings I can use to get around this?
I run a photography business as mentioned earlier, and picture quality needs to be excellent. And since there is a large number of people using their smart phones these days to do their surfing, I am more concerned about picture quality and size over the look of the mobile website/template. -
Hi there,
I took a look at the photos on your site on a mobile device, and I see what you mean. It looks like this is an issue with how the slideshow gallery resizes your images for the smaller screen. I reported this to our team, to take a look at why that happens.
In the meantime, though, you have some other options:
1. The Photographer theme has a built-in featured slideshow that you can use, instead of the gallery slideshow feature. There are instructions for setting up that featured slideshow in the About section on the theme’s description page here: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/photographer/support/
You can also get help setting up theme-specific features (like the featured slideshow) directly from the theme author, in the Photographer support forum here:
http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/photographer
2. You can try another gallery style, such as a tiled gallery, instead of a slideshow. These galleries currently work better on mobile devices, without any of the blurriness you see in the slideshow. We have more information about the different gallery styles here: Gallery
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Thanks for the reply again. My home screen slideshow is now exactly what I was hoping for when I bought the template. However, I do not like any alternative means of displaying my blog posts aside from the gallery. But I do really need things to display nicely on mobile devices. I noticed also there is no way to view pictures full screen on the mobile device is also problematic.
If you report these things to the team, how long of a turn around is there usually for getting things fixed/upgraded? -
I have another question for you. I love the way the featured slideshow appears both on a computer and a mobile device. Is it possible to make all of my blog posts appear like that? It looks to me like that option is only for the home page.

If you use one of the other gallery styles (like the tiled gallery) instead of a slideshow, users can click through to larger versions of your images and to the full-sized images themselves. However, this isn’t an option in the slideshow gallery.

I’ve already reported the image quality issue with slideshow to our team, but they don’t have an exact timeline for when a change will be made.

With the Photographer theme, you can create a slideshow on any page by following these steps:
- Create a Page
- Set the Slideshow Page Template within the Page Attributes
- Use the Add Media button from the page to upload your images for that page. Note: You do not need to insert the images in to the page. They will automatically be added to the slideshow if you use the Add Media button to upload the images.
- Publish the Page
- You may optionally display or hide the Page Title and Content for the Slideshow Page in the Theme Options
If you have any questions about how that works, you’re welcome to contact the theme author in the Photographer theme support forum. They can provide more details about how the theme slideshows work. :)

You mention I can make a slideshow on a page. I am not interested in making slideshows on pages, but I would like to do this to posts. Is that possible?
Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions. -
Sorry about that! I believe the Photographer theme only supports its theme slideshow on pages, using the Home and Slideshow page templates. However, the theme author can provide additional details about the theme’s built-in features in the Photographer support forum.
