  Hi! I am currently using the free plan on my wordpress.com site. Do I need to register my own domain, and upgrade to premium or business plan so that my visitors can donate? Thank you so much!

  You can add a PayPal donation button on the free plan:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

  You can also link to sites like Patreon if you get donations there.

  To add other payment options besides PayPal directly on your site, you’ll need an upgraded plan.
