move from wordpress.org to wordpress.com
-
I’ve read the article ‘Moving from a Self-Hosted WordPress to WordPress.com’ and the forum questions addressing it, but I’m having trouble at a certain step. When I try to set up a wordpress.com site for transferring my wordpress.org site (thefriendlyeditor.com), it asks if I would like to map an already-owned domain. When I say yes and type it in, it makes up its own wordpress.com site (e.g., thefriendlyeditordotcom.wordpress.com). But I’d like for the wordpress domain to be simply thefriendlyeditor.wordpress.com. Is there a way to do that?

You’re getting the “dotcom” as the address https://thefriendlyeditor.wordpress.com/ is already in use (although it has little content) and presumably it was not originally set up by yourself five years ago. You’ll need to try another variation of the address you’d prefer.
