Move my website from Weebly

    Hey there!

    I have just built a website on WordPress with Elementor for another business I own. It took a little time however I am over the moon with the result.

    I now want to move my current website (different business) hosted by weebly to you guys.

    So… Can I build the site first to test it and play with it and once it’s ready, can I transfer the hosting to WordPress?

    If so, what is the best way to start?

    How do I check how long I own my domain for? and then do I need hosting elsewhere or can WordPress do that?

    Hi Andy,

    First, you’re posting in the forums for the hosting provider, WordPress.com. We’re not the same thing as the open source WordPress software that you used to build your site using the Elementor plugin.

    We don’t offer a Weebly importer on WordPress.com, so in order to import a Weebly site to us you’ll first need to convert the Weebly RSS feed into a XML file that’s compatible with our importer:

    Once you have that file, you can import it to a WordPress.com site, like the https://dublinweddingmagician.wordpress.com/ site in your account, using our importer at My Site ->Tools ->Import.

    So… Can I build the site first to test it and play with it and once it’s ready, can I transfer the hosting to WordPress?

    If you want to host the site with us, it’s best to build the site with us from day one. For starters, it’s completely free to make a site here (unless you need features included in our paid plans), where you’d need to pay another hosting provider to even just install a copy of the WordPress software on their servers.

    And second, it’s just simpler to do everything from the beginning at the place where you want to host the site, rather than building it somewhere else and then moving it.

    How do I check how long I own my domain for?

    Of what domain are you speaking? You only own the free address, dublinweddingmagician.wordpress.com with us, and that address will exist for as long as your site does. You can replace it with a paid custom domain if you want to, but the free address will never go away unless you completely delete that site.

    then do I need hosting elsewhere or can WordPress do that?

    If you create your site with us on WordPress.com, we’re your hosting provider – hosting is free on WordPress.com, and we’re already providing you hosting for the site mentioned above.

    If you want to use the open source version of WordPress like you have on your other site where you used the Elementor plugin, then you’ll need to have a hosting plan from a provider like Bluehost or Pressable.
