move paid wordpress site (hostgator) to free wordpress site

  I have a wordpress site hosted by hostgator. I want to stop my payments to them and transfer that site to a free wordpress site. How do I do this?

  also, will all the media and links be transferred as well?

  We have a guide on how to migrate your content from a stand-alone WordPress site to WordPress.com:

  Media files should also be transferred, but that sometimes doesn’t work properly due to timeouts, or connection issues between our servers and your current host’s, so make very sure everything made it across before you take the current site offline.

  Can you expand on what you mean by links?
