Moved from wordpress, difficult accessing

  • Unknown's avatar

I paid for the domain momhuntsdeadpeople.com through WordPress but I decided to cancel premium and move the domain within the allotted time limit. Now I have difficulties accessing the domain I paid for, now when it’s typed in, it’s automatically redirected to momhuntsdeadpeople.wordpress.com. What’s the deal?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Your domain is still pointing to your WordPress.com site. Since the site doesn’t have a paid plan, the domain redirects to the WordPress.com address. Can you tell us more about your goal? Do you want to use the domain with a third-party host?

If yes, you’ll want to follow these steps:

    1. Ask your new host for their nameservers.
    2. Follow the instructions here to add those nameservers to the domain: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/change-name-servers/
    3. Wait up to 72 hours for the changes to take effect.

A newly registered domain can’t be transferred for up to 60 days. But during this time, you can use the domain with any external host by following the steps above. Once the 60-day transfer lock period is over, you can follow the steps here to transfer the domain registration elsewhere.

I’d also like to understand what made you cancel the WordPress.com Premium plan. Was there something you needed that wasn’t available in the plan? We’re here to help so feel free to let us know if there’s anything we can help with so that you can build your site on WordPress.com.

    Regards

I’ve already started to get everything setup with BlueHost and I want to get my domain hosted over there. When I spoke with them previously, I was told that I needed WordPress to “point the domain A record to 162.241.218.115.” Is that the IP address I need to use for the nameserver?

    Thanks.

    Yes that’s correct.

Please see this guide on how to change a domain DNS: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/custom-dns/

  • Hi @thewashingtoncountyauditorcom9276, since this is a different issue from the one in the original post, could you start a new topic here?
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

You can add a “modlook” tag if you’d like to get staff attention.

That way the people who have been working on this topic won’t get unwanted notifications as we troubleshoot your issue. Thanks!
