Moving blog to another host
-
Hi there,
I am looking to move my (free) blog to another (paid for) host so that I can take more control over it. I’m not an expert by any means and so I would like some clarification of the things that I think will be possible if I do this. Thanks.
With an alternative host I will be able to…
1. Export my blog in one easy step so that all content etc is copied across to the new place and the newly hosted blog be up and running in a very short time.
2. Control the look of the blog totally: putting images in the exact locations that I want them rather than having them either on the right, centre, or left; choosing a variety of different fonts and sizes that are currently not available to me; putting whatever I want, wherever I want it.
3. Add html code to the pages
4. Add plug-in functionality
In addition; can anyone provide recommendations for UK based hosts.
Thanks
AL.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

1) yes. Importing is one more step, but it’s easy. Go to tools->export on this blog, export. Go to tools->import on the new blog, import. Done.
2) that depends entirely on your skill set. If you’re good enough, yes.
3) yes
4) yes.

Thanks very much for the reply raincoaster.
re: no 2. My skills are reasonable, not brilliant, but I learn quickly and like to play around with things like this. To put the question more accurately, what I mean is, will the template currently is use, when hosted elsewhere, provide unrestricted access to tailoring the site, as it does not do currently do in the free hosted service that wordpress provide; in essence, I can manipulate it to my heart’s content when exported to another host.
I think you answered that it is possible.
Any suggestions as to a good UK host?
Thanks again for your help.
Al
