Moving domain from WordPress to Google

  • Unknown's avatar

I tried to move my domain letsgolundbergs.com from WordPress to Google domains. Now I receive an error message: You can’t get there from here (site_id mismatch error). This happens when an external blog (a self-hosted blog using the Stats plugin) is pointed to WordPress.com by DNS. If you are trying to migrate away from WordPress.com, please update your DNS to point the domain to your own server. Otherwise please contact WordPress.com support and explain what you were trying to do, what steps you took, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened.’ Please advise.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

It looks like the domain was deactivated a few days ago.

If you’re wanting to use your domain at a different host, you should never cancel it at your current host – once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.

If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/

For more information on using the domain elsewhere, please see:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/

I’ll be happy to register see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.

Let me know if you would like for me to try and regain the domain for you. I see that the domain is pointed to Google. We can assist you in updating the nameservers.

    Thanks!

    Hi Darnell!

Sorry, I thought I had followed the steps on those links, but clearly I missed something. Oops. Yes, if we can try to restore the domain back to my account that would be ideal.

    Thank you!!

  • @letsgolundbergs right now we’re showing the domain as registered with and pointing to Google. Are you seeing that on your side at this point?

Sorry, I’m clueless. I don’t even know where to see that on my side.

But I want the domain letsgolundbergs.com to be registered with Google Domains and forward to my Google Sites page.

  • I want the domain letsgolundbergs.com to be registered with Google Domains and forward to my Google Sites page.

Right now I can see here that it is indeed registered with Google Domains:
    https://whois.icann.org/en/lookup?name=letsgolundbergs.com

    They are listed under Registrar.

When I visit your site, it forwards to https://sites.google.com/view/lets-go-lundbergs/home .

If you’d like it to show your domain name instead, please chat with Google about how to make that happen.

    Cheers!
