Moving domain to wordpress
-
I Have a website http://www.wira.uk hosted by GoDaddy.
I was going to domain map but I want to know what my options are at time of renewal to moving completely over to WordPress. Will I require a domain name change?
We are a community interest company that will have a membership, take online donations and have an online store. What payment and donation options can I build into the website? We do not wish to use PayPal.
Finally can you migrate my website from the go daddy platform or shall I have to rebuild it manually?
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi there,
There are a lot of good questions. To make sure my reply is through I’ll take those one at a time, thanks.
We are a community interest company that will have a membership, take online donations and have an online store. What payment and donation options can I build into the website? We do not wish to use PayPal.
As it relates to websites, “membership” can mean a few different things. Can you tell us more about that? Are you trying to offer premium content (pages and/or blog posts that only paying members can see?) or did you have something else in mind?
We have basic “pay wall” functionality for charging a membership fee to access content, and we use Stripe (not PayPal) as the payment portal for that. You can learn more about this feature here, but we’re also happy to answer or help clarify any questions you have: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/premium-content-block/
Also there is a video here showing how the feature is set up as well.
For creating a way to accept donations (rather than selling access to locked content) we have a guide here for setting that up: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/payments/

Yes you can fully set up your new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.
When you first create your site we will assign a staging subdomain you can use to get set up in private. When you are ready to “launch” the new site to replace the current one, that is when you will want to “map” or connect your domain to us.
You definitely can use your existing domain, and do not need to change to a new one.
Finally can you migrate my website from the go daddy platform or shall I have to rebuild it manually?
If you have an existing WordPress site, we can migrate over an exact copy of the site as it is now. We cover how you can do that here: https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/#option-1-migrate-from-self-hosted
If your site on GoDaddy is on a different website platform (and not WordPress) the answer varies. What is the URL of your site? We’re happy to take a quick look and assess what you have over there.
Thanks for the additional info!
