Moving from hostgator to wordpress.com

I’m trying to move my blog so that I’m not having to pay the monthly fee to have my blog hosted anymore as I’m not being as active as I had hoped and there is no reason for me to be spending the money on a hobby. When I follow the directions on the help site it takes me to my hostgator site every time even when I’m logged in to wordpress.com. I’m assuming it’s linked but I have no idea what that means or how to unlink it so I can actually complete the process. Or is it being hosted on wordpress.com currently and am I paying for a service that I’m not actually even using? I’m so confused and I thought this would be as easy as the 4 steps posted to complete this process but of course it’s not.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Your self-hosted site is connected to WordPress.com through the JetPack plugin. You currently do not have a WordPress.com site.

However, if you are interested in transferring your blog to WordPress.com, our support document can assist you in making that move:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/

Also, we do not accept domain transfers, so I would keep your domain soggygranola.com with Hostgator, but point the domain’s nameservers over to WordPress.com. You’ll need to map the domain as well. Our support page also provides instructions on how to update your nameservers and map your domain:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all. Thanks!
