moving from squarespace

Hi there, that’s an editor for the About page, not the Site Editor that we’re referring to here.
The Post/Page Editor let’s you add/remove content from posts and pages.
The Site Editor let’s you change structural elements throughout your site, like the font size: https://wordpress.com/support/full-site-editing/
Please let us know if you have any more questions!

hello, i am still in the process of transferring my site from squarespace. I have downloaded and re-uploaded the content from my squarespace site but only some of it seems to appear in word press. what other info do i need to provide to get some help with this? thank you.
-
Hi, what’s not showing up on your site? I see that you have eight published posts and two pages (front page and about page).
Are there other posts and pages that weren’t transferred?
-
I’m really having a hard time here. My old site had four sections:
1) About
2) Diary
3) Expert Advice
4) Gallery –> this one I don’t need for my new site. When I’m in WP, when I click on the “pages” section on the left hand side of my screen, the only one that comes up is “About”. Sometimes I will run into the Posts from the “Diary” Section but I don’t know where those live in my new site. I can’t find them. Nothing from the “Expert Advice” Section seems to be anywhere. Why can’t I see anything? Thank you

Good morning –
This is really helpful for better understanding what you have in mind for this project. Thank you!
I’m really having a hard time here. My old site had four sections:
1) About
2) Diary
3) Expert AdviceIt sounds like you want these items to be listed in a menu at the top (or header) space – is that right?
The pages can exist with out being linked in to a menu but folks aren’t going to find them unless they know exactly how to find them through search engines. It’s not something folks do, generally speaking.
The first thing is to create the desired pages, get them set up with the content and styling that you want, and then we will put them in a site menu.
When I’m in WP, when I click on the “pages” section on the left hand side of my screen, the only one that comes up is “About”.
This is the breakdown of current pages on your site.
About: an active and published page
Resources: inactive, and in the trash bin
Gallery: still in draft mode
Advice from the Experts: still in draft mode
Is My Dog OK?: this is the front page of the site and also where your posts are being assigned to publish.
The next step is to Trash any of these pages that you don’t need or want for right now. Get them out of the way and it will help you with clutter and less confusion. Then, go ahead and publish those draft pages if you want them to be indexable by search engines, and/or show up in the site menu. Last thing, if you want any additional pages, go ahead and make those, and publish them. I don’t see a “Diary” page for example. Once the pages are all made, we will work on putting them in the site menu and configuring that how you need. But I think it best to focus on one area at a time to limit confusion and being overwhelmed.
It’s a big undertaking to learn a new product and move a site. You are doing great.

hey thanks so much for the help here. I have published the pages that were in drafts and I guess that brings up another question. The “Advice from Experts” page is supposed to have a series of articles in it. I think those might have been the ones that didn’t import properly from SquareSpace. is there a way I can troubleshoot that?
-
update – i found the posts that were missing, they were hiding in a section called “posts”. I need to move them to a different page or section called “expert advice”. do i need to create a new page first? how do I add them there? Thank you very much.
-
Hey there @meghanlplambeck! I stepped out for a few days and I see you’ve made great progress. Right now I see posts (articles basically) on the front page. Are those the ones?
Do you still want to move them to a separate page and put something else on the front page of the site? If so, this may help:
https://wordpress.com/support/pages/front-page/If that isn’t what you have in mind, let us know.
Also: our paid plans include direct support (usually via chat) so if you’re planning to upgrade the site when you’re done, you’d be welcome to add that upgrade now for your convenience. Even with an upgrade, you don’t have to make the new site live til you’re ready.

Hey thanks very much! So it sounds like I need to set a homepage, I can do that. Right now it seems like all of my “posts” have been jumbled together into one section. I was hoping to have them separated into two sections: 1) diary 2) expert advice. Is there any way I can do that?
Re: paid plan – i thought I had that already? is that a different tier of subscription? really appreciate your help here.

Hello there,
I was hoping to have them separated into two sections: 1) diary 2) expert advice. Is there any way I can do that?
It sounds like you need to use categories for your posts. https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/
I can see that the site is on the premium plan, so you should be able to reach out for support here: https://wordpress.com/help/contact also.

Hey thank you. I have categorized all those posts the right way. Is it not possible to set “Posts” as a Homepage? Asking because I’m running into this issue when I’m trying to insert a Navigation Block. I’m not sure where to add that? At first it just added itself to the bottom of all the posts which isn’t ideal. Then I saw a menu in the header which wasn’t terrible, but it’s thinking to things I dont’ want it to (i.e. Gallery).

Hi, I see that we helped you with that via live chat. If you need more help, feel free to start a new chat session.
