Moving from WP.org to WP.com
-
Hi,
I’m trying to move my self-hosted WordPress to the WordPress.com personal plan.
Since I can access my site via WP.com, I simply went to plans>upgrade personal plan. However, when I try and pay the annual subscription, I get this error message ‘The transaction was declined. Please try another card.’
1. Why am I getting the error message?
2. My card is linked to paypal so there’s no problem with it.
3. Am I transferring my website in the wrong manner?
4. I want to retain my domain name during this process.Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @dngei30, we don’t have details on that since the message is coming from your card company. Are you able to try another card?
Also, if you’re trying to do direct-draw through a paypal account, can you make sure the necessary funds have been transferred to paypal prior to the transaction?

We have tips on importing WordPress.org sites here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/coming-from-self-hosted/ -
Basically you’ll export from the old site, import to the new one, then (after verifying your media came through properly) you’ll point the domain to our servers using a personal plan + domain mapping + updating your nameservers. All of the steps are in the guide, and if you need help, just let us know.

I’ve seen that.
As a self hosted blog, my content is already on WordPress.com.
Do I have to export and then import (as the guide describes), or can I just upgrade my plan from free to personal via my dashboard?

I want to use my businessbrokendown site, however, when I click on import it tells me page not found.
Do I need to add a new site? If I do how can I keep the domain?
-
@dngei30 are you importing via https://wordpress.com/settings/import/mybusinessbrokendown.wordpress.com ?
-
@supernovia I managed to import, buy the personal plan, add map the domain.
Now I’m attempting to fix the DNS records (because the mapped domain still points to the self-hosted site). I’m also trying to make the mapped domain my primary domain.
Should I delete my self-hosted account at this point?
-
@dngei30 did you verify your media imported properly?
You can check here:
https://mybusinessbrokendown.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.phpMake sure you have the same number of images as on the old site, and that all of the images appear properly.
If you were using email with the old provider and would like that same email to continue, please be sure to add those DNS settings here.
Then it’s safe to go ahead and update your name servers, then wait 4-6 hours for the settings to take effect. You can also set the primary domain in the meantime.

I went through all my content, the export and import went smoothly.
At what point should I delete my Justhost account (hosting for my wp.org site)?
-
@dngei30 I’d wait at least half of the 4-6 hours for the DNS changes to take effect. In the meantime, personally I would make and download a full backup (just in case).
By the way, now that you have a paid plan, you can get in touch directly with support here:
