  Hi I have a current website and want to learn your website before i move my site to you. the system is asking for a website address. is it possible for me to start with a generic address and then if wordpress works just transwer what i create to my current website once I am done ‘playing’ or do I need to committ right now to even try out the application

  Yes. Just choose a free address ending in .wordpress.com (or the new home.blog address). You can always purchase a paid plan at a later date to enable you to map/transfer your domain address to that site.
