moving my wordpress.com blog to a host domain
-
Hello, I am trying to move my wordpress.com blog content to my new domain. The problem is I can’t back up my content so easy because it is 14mb. The file I get when I back it up is an XML file. The domain that i’m trying to move it to needs the file to be a SQL file. I cant add plugins to my wordpress.com site so I cant do that. When I try to use a xml to sql converter it gives me an error.
any suggestions?

If you’re interested, we do offer an upgrade called Guided Transfer (available in the Store section of your blog’s Dashboard) where we take care of everything for you: http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/
Otherwise, you’ll need to install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/ on your hosting provider.
Once that’s done, you can move your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
We don’t provide MySQL access, but the XML file will transfer all of your content if you follow the guide linked to above.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress at:

thanks for the reply
The only problem is that the XML file hat i have is 14 mb and my limit is 8mb for importing. -
Check at WordPress.ORG but if my memory is correct the XML file can be broken into smaller sections (you can also export your blog in sections – I think by Category etc) giving you naturally occurring smaller XML files – there is no reason the whole blog needs to be in one large XML file.

how do i break up the file?
I have wordpress.com (the site I want to move)
I am moving it to my own site. i dont have plugins on my wordpress.com

When exporting from here, you can export specific date ranges. You could also ask your hosting provider to temporarily increase PHP’s upload limit so you can upload the 14MB file.
