My Admin Passed Away – How Do I Recover Data?

About a year or so ago, my good friend (who was hosting my website) passed away and so the website was taken down when he did not renew the site. Is there a way I can log in and get the old information, hopefully to move to a new WordPress site?

That depends on the site. If it is hosted here on WordPress.com, the site should still be online. Any upgrades, like a custom domain, would have been removed when they expired, but the site will still exist at the free WordPress.com address.
In that case the only way to get access to the site again is to follow our process outlined here:
If the site was using WordPress at another host, we’re not able to help as we don’t have any control over such sites. In that case your only option is to contact the hosting provider that used to host the site and ask if they still have a backup of the site which they can provide to you.
