My blog has been hijacked not hacked
-
I used to write a blog for several years and decided to let the URL lapse and the blog to die with it a couple of years ago. This weekend, someone bought the URL and has somehow gained access to my blog as well. I don’t understand how!! They’re posting my old posts as their own. I’ve tried to access the blog dashboard but can’t.
What can I do?!

myfamilrecipes.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.
What is the URL of the site you need help with?
If you deleted your WordPressdotcom site 2 or more years ago, someone else may be able to reuse that WordPress.com subdomain depending on whether it involves a technical issue or not.
If you are referring to a custom domain name that you once owned and then let go, there is nothing preventing someone else from buying that lapsed domain.
However, if someone else is using your content without your permission, you can lodge a DMCA take down order with the current web provider of that domain. So first you need to determine where that site is hosted and you can do that by checking the WHOIS record. https://whois.icann.org/
Here is general information about Copyright and the DMCA https://en.support.wordpress.com/copyright-and-the-dmca/ however, in order to understand where the site is hosted, please advise us of the URL so we can point you in the right direction.

Hi Jennifer, thanks.
The URL is http://www.workingwomenaustralia.com.au and I don’t want the URL, I understand someone else can buy it. No probs with that.
However in buying the domain he’s also gained access to my blog that was hosted at that URL somehow and is passing the content off as his own.
The Whois and ABN lookup has given me his name and address. All I want it my blog content back. I don’t understand how buying the domain has given him the WordPress access??

I am sorry I do not have an answer for you as to how they have your content on their website. You can certainly contact the new domain owner directly to advise them to remove your material.
Failing that you should contact the web hosting provider, which looks to be Panthur Hosting Australia. Most reputable web hosting providers have a DMCA procedure.

It’s not a question of hosting or the purchase of my old URL. It’s the fact that they have gained access to my WordPress dashboard and changed the settings. I just want my WordPress access back and my content.

Looking at the Internet Archive Wayback Mahcine, it doesn’t look like workingwomenaustralia.com.au was hosted here on WordPressdotcom at any time, but I’ve tagged this for Staff assistance in confirming that and possible input on this issue.
Just to clarify, WordPress comes in two flavors: the fully hosted WordPressdotcom (where we are ) and the open source WP (org) project at https://wordpress.org This support guide explains some of the differences between them: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Hi creatingkim2015,
There are two types of WordPress:
- WordPress.com (sites are hosted on our servers)
- WordPress.org (the site is hosted elsewhere)
It looks like workingwomenaustralia.com.au was connected to a WordPress.com site (workingwomenaustralia.wordpress.com) with domain mapping several years ago — the site is owned by a different account to the one you are currently contacting us from.
The domain workingwomenaustralia.com.au is now pointing to a self hosted WordPress.org site.
We don’t have any control over the content on workingwomenaustralia.com.au because the site is not hosted on our servers. As @justjennifer mentioned, you would need to contact the hosting company to see if they are able to offer you any advice about the current site.
If you own workingwomenaustralia.wordpress.com and wish to try and gain access to that site, we can look at the next steps.
