My content is not exporting
-
I have tried the standard blogging export/import and it didn’t work.
I have tried using Filezila.
It’s been two months and lots of contact with Bluehost and WordPress and I still am not able to use my new host site.
The content file that I export from wordpress.com blog does not contain my content.
PLEASE help me!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Can you please use the WP Admin Dashboard to download an export of your blog’s contents? Here’s a direct link:
https://noseafoodworld.wordpress.com/wp-admin/export.php?type=export
I have already tested in on a demo site and I was able to import all of your posts, pages, comments, and pictures.

Thank you very much for checking this for me.
What should I be seeing on the xml download?
I see some of the blog content and lots of coding but not all and it looks very similar to the files which Bluehost have told me are incorrect.
I am wary of importing this to the wordpress.org as I did that before and everything wasnt there and the pictures were all in the wrong order and I had to delete the site and start again.
Really appreciate your help, thanks so much -
@noseafoodworld you should be getting an XML file that is full of code describing your posts, linking to images, etc. When you run the import tool on your own copy of WordPress, it uses that data to reconstruct your posts, pull in images, etc.
Are you using these steps?
https://move.wordpress.orgIt’s possible the import is timing out at your provider, so you might check with them on that. Be sure to show them the instructions on that link as well. They might be expecting a cPanel backup file, since they might get that if you were moving from another self-hosting provider, but since you’re coming from WordPress.com, you’ll just get the XML.
As another option, you might consider hiring a transfer guide to move the site for you. We have details here:

OK some content is there but only up to a certain point.
Bluehost said I should advise wordpress I need an xml file which will contain all pages, posts and themes , plugins etc but we have both clicked on export all. They said there was no time out issues.
So why is not all being exported, I have no idea.
I can´t afford to pay for any more services.
Thanks again. -
WordPress.com sites can only export content, i.e. post, pages and comments, and the WordPress importer on the new site will transfer media files after you import the .xml file containing the text content. You import this file at Tools ->Import ->WordPress in the WP-Admin dashboard of the new site.
What Bluehost is asking you for is a full site backup that they can upload directly to their servers. We do not provide that, as WordPress.com uses a custom configuration of WordPress that is not compatible with other hosting providers, and it’s not possible to export a WordPress.com theme or any of the plugins automatically included in all WordPress.com sites.
Once you install the WordPress software at Bluehost you’ll need to install a theme yourself via the Themes section in the WP-Admin dashboard, and you can install any plugins you want to use from the Plugins section.
Make it clear to Bluehost support that you’re coming from WordPress.COM, not migrating a self-hosted WordPress site from another hosting provider.

Hi and thanks again for your help.
Okay I will make this clear to them.
I have installed my theme and everything, the problem is that it is not exporting all of my content. It has exported all my posts only up until January 2017.
I don’t think this is a Bluehost issue so I need to figure out how to export ALL of my content.Thank you so much

I am really keen to get this sorted today as it has been going on a long time.
Much appreciated, thank you. -
@noseafoodworld, my best guess is that all of the posts are there, but they’re timing out when you import.
A quick test for this is to try running the import again. If it brings in more posts, the posts are all there in the file, but it’s timing out before it finishes. Bluehost can help you with this.
Still, I’m happy to make an export for you on our end and check to ensure the posts are all there. I’ll email that here shortly. Cheers!

Hello
I feel like I am being passed back and forth between you and Bluehost and not getting anywhere. I really appreciate you checking and responding, please help me to get this resolved today.
This is part of my chat with Bluehost today after I told them that my export had been tested and contained all of my files and that you had advised it must be a time-out issue, which they would be able to help me with.
‘I had contacted higher specialists regarding this and they have informed that we cannot do anything from our end.
As far as posts from wordpress.com coming over, we have no control over that. You have to use an export/import tool to move a blog from wordpress.com to any other host, sometimes it does not work right…Yeah we can’t do anything with that importer tool as it is not ours. Not sure why they think we should be able to make sure it doesn’t time out. If you have all the content and can upload it then great! Honestly there is nothing we can do.’They have provided these two articles, one of which instructs me to fix the time-out error by changing the maximum variable to the ‘desired range’ I am not IT savy and I have no idea what this range would be. I am using file zila so it cannot be that the files are too large right?
https://wpsitex.com/fix-time-out-error-while-importing-xml-backup-file-to-wordpressThe second article is an account of peoples problems using your tool, I don’t see anything on there that can help me right now. I am not getting a time out message.
https://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/alternatives-to-wordpress-importer-pluginI understand your service is free so I appreciate your help, but please know that these problems are wasting money and days of my time on a site that I am paying for and this HAS to be resolved today!
Thank you

@noseafoodworld did you try my earlier suggestion of re-running the import on top of the existing import?
Did more posts come in?
-
Thanks for your response.
Yes I tried and just got messages saying ..Post “Backpacker for a night” already exists.
Post “Get me back to sea level” already exists.
Post “Today’s pig is tomorrows bacon” already exists.
Media “20171206_104826” already exists.
Media “20171206_133048” already exists.I tried a second time just importing posts from January as there is one missing from January and just got the same but a shorter list.
Thank you for your ongoing help
Thank you

Please keep re-running the importer with the full XML file I sent you. You will get “already exists” messages for the posts that do already exist, but it should also add new ones each time, even if their server is timing out on you.
