  • Would you please quote the error you see when you try to change the card?

    Thank you! Error message says:
“Error authorizing credit card. Please contact WordPress.com support.”

  • That’s odd, I don’t see any errors on this end. Would you please try again now?

If you see the same error, I recommend contacting your credit card provider.

mac, I’ve tried with all my credit cards, and WordPress still gives me the same error message:

“Error authorizing credit card. Please contact WordPress.com support.”

Who at support can help me? I don’t want to lose my blog. I have simply paid for the domain redirect. Will it revert to a WordPress blog if this winds up unresolved/unpaid? I hope I won’t lose my whole blog / blogs. All that work :(

    Thanks,
    Renee

  • Ok, please give it a shot again after my last reply, as it could have been related to an earlier issue.

    Macmanx,

Thank you for your help. WP Store still won’t take my credit card. What will happen to my wordpress blog that I paid to have listed as a .com if we don’t get this payment issue fixed? The payment is due in March 2013 I think.

I wish I understood why the WP payment system isn’t taking my credit card.
Would it help to cancel the auto renew feature and then try to add the new credit card? Could it be I need to renew or ad this credit card to paypal for it to be effective?

I also followed up with my credit card company and they said there is nothing blocking use of the credit card on their end.

  • What country is your billing address located in?

  • That should definitely work. Is it a pre-paid card, like a Visa Gift Card?

    Standard credit card.

And what happens to my blog if this doesn’t get resolved. does it revert to a WordPress blog, or do I lose everything to some unresolved glitch like this?

ps – please note, I have tried updating with all my standard credit cards, which I use on a daily basis… and WP accepts none of them in this update window. So sad. I’m really sad.

  • You will have at least a week during which the domain will still operate and you can attempt to renew it.

I see no indications of the card failing on our end, but failed authorization is a problem on your bank’s end where they are not receiving the matching billing details (CID code, expiration date, billing address, etc.)

Do you have any other cards that you could try?

I tried my 2 Chase cards as well when this first happened and received the same message. I wonder if the set up profile or something isn’t set up correct — or the fact that I tried to cancel auto renew and then tried to renew and I”ve left myself in payment limbo land with such…

I can try calling the bank again, but they were definitive that nothing was blocked on their end.

What about the idea that the new credit card is not on file with paypal as the old one was?

  • No, we’ll take payment as long as the bank authorizes it.

Do you have cards from any other bank? If not, I recommend contacting Chase again.

It wasn’t chase that I had contact with. What do you advise I tell the credit card companieS when they say the problem is not on their end?

It would be highly unusual for a credit card to immediately deny something in the time frame of a keystroke in which the WordPress page pops up the error message. When I called the credit card company they walked through everything and said the card was clear to accept such charges as it has in the past. Likewise the credit cards that keep getting rejected by wordpress pose no issue in other daily transactions.

I wonder what else I could be doing wrong in inputting information or if I’m staring with the incorrect tab to begin this type of transaction?

Unfortunately, the week about which you speak in March when the domain will remain open for only one week is when I have spring break, so it will be more difficult if I am out of the country to settle this matter then. How can we settle it before it’s too late?

  • I’m pretty sure we’ll have a solution before it expires on April 30, 2013.

In fact, it might be better just to wait until you’re closer. We’re working to improve our early renewal system.

Thank you. Should the fallback plan remain I keep trying and checking in?

And, if the domain name transfer expires it will revert back to a wordpress blog?

Then I will transfer it again like I did at initial set up?

    Thanks,

    Renee
