    You paid your registrar for the custom domain, nothing more, nothing less.

    If you want to use your custom domain on your wordpress.com site, you need a paid plan together with a domain connection.

    If you want to use your custom domain somewhere else, you must buy yourself hosting and do all the work of installing, maintaining and securing the open source wordpress.org all by yourself.
