My Domain is NOT HERE

  • Unknown's avatar

I own a domain through godaddy. It says it is mapped to here. I cannot find it linked anywhere here. I don’t want it here, but I can’t unlink it if I cannot find it. It is calebland.org when I type that in to the address bar, it tells me to upgrade my wordpress account. I’m not doing that. I just want my domain freed up to use elsewhere.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Your domain is no longer mapped here and hasn’t been for some time. You should be able to use it elsewhere, for it is hosted with GoDaddy. Have you tried using the domain elsewhere without success?

    Let me know, thanks!

I did try. On squarespace, which sends me to go daddy which sends me to WordPress.

A “Whois” shows the nameservers are still pointing to WordPress.com. Have you a site elsewhere that they should be pointing to?

    Domain:calebland.org
    Registrar:GoDaddy.com, LLC
    Name Servers:
    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

  • Hi there,

Your domain’s name servers are pointed to us, but we have no control over that at all. The only place where you can control where the name servers point is at your domain registrar, i.e. GoDaddy.

The fact that it’s pointed here does not prevent you from using it anywhere else. All you need to do to use it somewhere else is to log into your account with GoDaddy and change the name servers from ours, to those used by whichever hosting provider you want to use. You can find GoDaddy’s instructions on how to do that here:

    https://in.godaddy.com/help/set-custom-nameservers-for-domains-registered-with-godaddy-12317

For the name servers you need to use, you’ll need to contact Squarespace.

If Squarespace wants you to use A records instead of name servers, you’ll first need to set the name servers back to the default setting, or ask GoDaddy support to do that for you. Then you need to edit the domain’s DNS records at GoDaddy to add the A records from Squarespace.

You can find GoDaddy’s instructions on how to access their DNS manager here:

    https://in.godaddy.com/help/access-the-dns-manager-19182?
