My site disappeared from ‘My Sites.’ Why? And is it recoverable?
-
Several years ago I started a blog to document my brother’s cancer journey. I hosted it through SiteGround but stopped keeping up with it after a while so it doesn’t exist. I was hoping WordPress would have saved it, so I logged in to see but it’s not listed under my sites. Any thoughts or suggestions? I don’t understand a lot about blogs or hosting, but I’d love to recover the site if possible.

I’m sorry, but your site was not hosted with WordPress.com. It was a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with Siteground.
Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can find more information here about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
It was also not using our backup product https://jetpack.com/upgrade/backup/ so we won’t be able to directly assist with this.
In this case, I recommend contacting your former hosting provider to ask if they still have a backup of your account: https://www.siteground.com/company#contactus
If not, you’re welcome to start a new site here via https://wordpress.com/start and you can copy/paste some content from an archived copy, like https://web.archive.org/web/20210225170157/http://mortalshowersbringeternalflowers.com/
