I thought I was started on a Website and blog under the name newyork-newglarus.com but I can’t see it when I search for it and haven’t figured out how to ‘activate’ it. Perhaps its because I haven’t paid you anything, perhaps I am too f…. dumb, but I’d like to begin posting articles and photos. I need help. I tried Youtube videos but they seem to want to sell me another service, hosting the domain and I thought I already asked you to do that.

The address of your free WordPress.com site is https://newyorknewglarus.wordpress.com/ and you are currently logged in to the correct account to work on it.
newyork-newglarus.com doesn’t appear to exist. If that is your preferred address you’d need to upgrade to a paid WordPress.com plan and then you could replace your current site’s address with that domain.
PS: Many UToob videos refer to the WordPress.org software rather than WordPress.com (here) and can confuse rather than help you. It would be better to look at: https://en.support.wordpress.com/video-tutorials/
