Mysterious comments appearing

  2 comments appeared on blog using the same ‘names’ as 2 of our regular commenters.
  Then, one suddenly disappeared! I am the only admin/owner and I did not delete the comment…. so I’m puzzled.
  Questions:
  Can anyone post a comment and delete it?
  Is there a way to prevent someone from using the same ‘name’ when commenting?
  Has this happened to other blogs and if so, what did you do to prevent this please?

  Comments, whether published or unpublished don’t spontaneously disappear. Might you have accidentally trashed it? By the way, trashed comments can be restored within 30 days. Was the comment filtered as spam?

  No. Only the Administrator and Editor user roles allow editing of comments.

  Is there a way to prevent someone from using the same ‘name’ when commenting?

  Not if you don’t require that a visitor must be a registered WordPress.com member and logged in order to comment. See the “Other Comment Settings” section of the Discussion Settings support page.
