Name of my website

  • Unknown's avatar

At present my site is hosted by another company. I want to change the site radically and like the idea of using one of your themes. If I ask you to host my site, will I be able to continue to use my site’s name (which we have used for over 20 years) or will I have to change it?

  • Hi there,

Are you referring to the domain name? If so, yes, you can use the same domain name if you moved the site over to WordPress.com – you would just have to move the domain over as well.

If your domain is currently hosted elsewhere, you have two options. You can either keep your domain where it is currently hosted and point the nameservers over to WordPress.com:

Mapping a domain to WordPress.com requires the purchase of a paid plan:

The other options is to transfer your domain over to WordPress.com so that both your site and domain are hosted here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

The domain has to be registered for at least 60 days for you to be able to transfer it. Otherwise, to use the domain, you’ll need to point the nameservers over to WordPress.com until the 60 days have been reached. You also must purchase a plan in order to use the domain with your site.

    Hope that helps.
