Name servers and dns pointed to godaddy but still not working

As the name suggests I have talked with godaddy and the name servers I am using are correct and the dns I am pointed to is correct but when I check with dnsdig the dns is pointed to something different. My guess is that it is because my private registration is not enabled but when I try to enable it it says it didnt work and please contact customer support.

Any help would be great, thanks.

  • Are you using both an A Record and Nameservers to point your domain? That can be the cause of this issue. You should be using one or the other.

If that isn’t it, let me know and I can do some more troubleshooting.

Hi, Yes, I am using both. The A record is pointed to the correct dns and the nameservers were given to me on the phone by godaddy staff.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • If you are using an A-Record, you should be using WordPress.com nameservers. If you are using GoDaddy nameservers, you should not have an A-Record. You need to choose one or the other.

I thought I had tried that and I was following the advice of godaddy to have the name servers pointed at godaddy and changing the dns. Anyway, the problem was solved by Eurello. I am not sure what she did but it appears the nameservers were also changed back to wordpress as you suggested. Below is her exact message for anyone else having this problem and wanting to know how I solved it.

“Sorry about this. GoDaddy has slightly changed the way this works. I’ve made an adjustment to your DNS and now the only A record is the one pointed to ##.###.###.###.”
