The image set for a status and profile have to be taken that moment but I have pictures from before I want to chose from but cannot, I don’t know if it’s because I don’t know how to do so or is it that it’s not able to do so, please help

Sorry for making it unclear at first. What I want to know is how to put avatar or a media picture (i think that’s what they are called) from the gallery not the picture you took at the moment, hope I explained it properly
I’m still not sure what you mean. There is nowhere in WordPress.com where you can “take” a picture for your Gravatar image.
To change your profile picture, go to https://wordpress.com/me/ and click on the profile pic. That will take you to the Gravatar website where you can upload a picture to use.
