Need help canceling a domain

My domain expired. I tried to just cancel the domain but it says, “You cannot cancel this domain because it was not registered with WordPress.com. Please contact support.”
Ultimately I DO want the domain (www.wanderlustwithin.com) but I understand that it may be unavailable for 90 days. In the meantime I would still like my blog to show up under the .wordpress.com link.

If you want to keep using this domain, your best option is to renew it with us. If you let the domain completely expire, you may not be able to get it back again.
If you’re okay with that and would prefer to let the domain fully expire, just let me know and I’ll remove it from your account.
In the future, if you need to move a domain you should follow these steps to safely transfer the domain to a new registrar:

I do not see any options to renew it. When I go to My Upgrades it does not have a renew option. It says, “Status: Expired on September 14, 2014. This upgrade expired on September 14, 2014. DNS needs to be updated. Cancellation Info.” Under My Domains it doesn’t have a renew option.
I don’t need to move a domain. It has never been anywhere but on wordpress. That is part of my frustration with the error message, “You cannot cancel this domain because it was not registered with WordPress.com.”

Sorry for the confusion! I should have explained further. Because the domain is expired, I’ll need to contact our registrar and ask for the domain to be retrieved. This process usually incurs an $80 redemption fee. If you’d like to go ahead with this, just let me know and I’ll send you a payment request.

At this point I’d rather just cancel it and hope the domain becomes available again at the regular rate than pay the $80 fee.

It looks like the domain will become available again in about three weeks. You won’t get a notice or anything at that time, but you can check the Whois information to confirm when it’s available:
