Need help changing an existing domain name to a WordPress blog
-
I have an existing website but I would like to abandon it in favor of a WordPress blog but I want to keep my domain name. Our web hosting company will release the name but I got this email from them:
“The domain is registered in the name of Tayson Technologies and points to my hosting server. While I can change that domain to point to the WordPress site, that means that the domain is still owned and paid for by Tayson Technologies. If you would like to venture out on your own with the site you will need to register the domain at a domain registrar and then request the domain from me. Once I release the domain it will be yours and you will then be able to point the domain to the WordPress site. I’m willing to release the domain, but I would prefer for you to request the domain to be released and then transferred from me to you.”
How do I proceed with the changeover?

Well, a registered domain should legally be your property, so to be honest I’d take the opportunity to transfer it away from them to another registrar.
With that said, we can’t accept incoming domain transfers, but when you’re settled, you can map it to your WordPress.com blog following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
