Need help taking down an old site

  Hi there,

  I am a member of the volunteer board of an organization. Unfortunately, we have an old, out dated wordpress site that includes completly outdated and incorrect information about our organization. The log in information for the site is only known to a former board member who left on bad terms and is refusing to help us take the site down even though all the information posted on it is incorrect.

  We serve a very vulnerable population of people some of who are homeless, struggling with addiction, etc, and having the incorrect information up has the potential to harm people.

  Any insight would be appreciated.

  Hi there,

  I’m afraid we cannot take down that site at your request under any circumstances.

  We see the owner of any WordPress.com site as the individual who created it and owns the WordPress.com account used to create the site, not any organisation of which they may have been a member, or for whom they may have built the site. The only way to gain access to the account is if you can verify ownership via our account recovery process:

  Additionally the account in this case owns a custom domain , and the rules are even more strict when it comes to domain ownership. The domain was registered as for a Canadian Citizen, not for an organisation, and the only way we’d be able to give you control over the domain is if you contacted us from the email address provided as the domain admin contact when the domain was registered.
