Need to add a blog via a menu item on a static page website

  I currently have two wordpress.com locations one of which is now fully published, and public, on the internet via another domain name. I would like to add a blog to that site but it should be easily accessible via a menu item.

  Using the “post” function I can create a blog post but it doesn’t seem to be accessible from the main website. How can I set it up so that visitors to the website can access the blog? It seems that if you are already in the blog, the menu items are still active and a blog reader can get onto the main website pages from the blog, but not the other way round.

  A bit of guidance would be much appreciated.

  Hi Jim,

  To set up a blog on those sites, there are a few steps:

  1. You can go to Pages > Add New in the site’s dashboard to create a new, blank page. That page will be used to display all of your blog posts. You can give that page a title like “Blog” and then publish it.

  2. You can go to Settings > Reading in the site’s dashboard to tell your site to use that new page to display your blog posts.

  At the top of that settings page, you’ll see the setting Front page displays. To the right, you selected “A static page (select below)” and you’ll see the “Front page” you selected. Under that, you’ll see “Posts page” and a dropdown menu. In that dropdown menu, choose the title of the blog page you just created, and then click the “Save Changes” button.

  3. To make that blog page appear in the menu on the site, you can go to Appearance > Menus in the site’s dashboard. There, you can add that new blog page to the site’s main menu and then click the “Save Menu” button.

  Huge thanks, that seems to have sorted my problem. I’d been going round in circles for a couple of days trying to figure it out – and it’s so flipping simple :-/

  All I need to do now is get the posts contributor to figure out how easy it’ll be for them to start publishing.
