Need to recover the account for a site that someone else set up

    I’m on the committee of a local ukulele group

    I’m in charge of setting up a new website for the group, which I’m in the process of, but we have found that a past member had set up a ____.wordpress.com site. We’re not sure who set this up, and the people we have contacted who would be the likely candidates aren’t aware of it either

    All of the info on this site is quite out of date, so we’d really like the site to be taken down if possible

    I don’t really know what the best process for this would be, and don’t expect you to just take me for my word

    Could you maybe please pass this message on to the email account which is associated with the site and ask them to get in touch with me? I can PM the site URL and my contact details to a wordpress staff member if that’s an option

    It’s possible that whoever set this up has just forgotten that it exists

    Or if you have any other ideas of what can be done, I’d appreciate your help with this

    (just to be clear, the site in question isn’t the stevengapo.wordpress.com site, that footer is something that was auto-added to my post)

    Hi there,

    We cannot remove content from a site or take it offline at a third party’s request under any circumstances.

    If you provide the URL of the site in question I can tell you the username that owns it, which might help you find the person that owns the account in questions. But only an admin on a site can delete or otherwise change the visibility settings of the site.

    Hi Kokkieh,

    Yep I totally understand not being able to take a site offline from a 3rd party request, but if you could let me know the username that would be really helpful thanks. There’s only a handful of people who could have made the site, so that’ll hopefully let us know who is is

    Thanks for that supernovia , the username is super unhelpful (LOL) but thanks for the suggestion of leaving a reply on the videos page

    I’ve done that and will hopefully hear from someone about it :)
