    I just set up my site and it said it was free for a year but it said i need to pay for the domain now after i put in my credit card?
    Need help, asap.

    While you can definitely set up a free site on WordPress.com, those sites need to use our free “wordpress.com” URL in the site address. For a custom domain you do need to pay extra, that is not provided for free.

    However, if you upgrade to the WordPress.com Pro Plan, a custom domain is provided free for the first year as part of the plan. More info here.


    @riaanpretoriuswebdev     – while we appreciate your help, the answer you have given is incorrect. Domains can be purchased directly on WordPress.com (you do not need to go to another company) and there is no need to purchase additional hosting as we provide that on WordPress.com for free.
