New address-same files?

Hello. If I change my wordpress address to a new one, will all of the content on my site still be here, imported to the new address with formatting and everything? I want to change the name but do not want to lose content and have to rebuild. It is currently a username.wordress.com name and I want to change it, then purchase the new Domain name and upgrade. Thanks!

Hi there,
If you’re planning to buy a custom domain name, why do you want to change the free address? The custom domain will automatically replace the free address when you buy it, and all existing links to the free address will be redirected to the custom domain, so existing visitors to your site won’t even notice anything has changed.
If you still want to change the free address, it won’t affect your content at all, but it will break any existing links to it that have been shared online as the current address is deleted as part of the process. To prevent that, we’ll need to restore the old address for you afterwards so you can buy a site redirect upgrade to point it to the new address.
