New admin invitation email

  • Unknown's avatar

Someone with a wordpress.com website added me as a new admin to their website. They sent me a screen shot showing that I am listed as an admin user in the dashboard. My understanding is that I am supposed to get an email from wordpress.com inviting me to become a new user for that site. But I did not receive the email. Are there any additional steps that need to be taken for the invitation email to be sent?

  • Hi there,

Which site is this for? I see you have a few on your account

Please note that if you were invited to www.normanwhamilton.com that is not a WordPress.com site, but instead a self-hosted WordPress site, which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.

For that site (which uses a different version of the WordPress platform) we are not able to help directly but I can at least point you in the right direction to get help.

    Thanks for the additional info!

The site I am seeking to be added as an admin is mounttabormusicschool.com which is hosted on wordpress.com. The site’s owner tried to add me as an admin. She showed the screen shot of her dashboard showing that I am an admin. But I never received an invite. The site’s owner is sick and is unable to contact you for support.

  • We can help with this, but for security reasons, we absolutely must see the request from the site’s owner.

Mounttabormusicschool.com is on a business plan through wordpress.com. The plan expires on Thursday and the site’s owner will not be renewing. I wanted to migrate the site to another hosting provider but if we can’t get this admin thing figured out it may not happen. Can you tell what happens to a website that let’s it’s business plan expire. Will the site remain up?

  • If the plan expires, the site will be reverted to a free site, losing the Business Plan features, including plugins, and the domain will be lost.

If the domain is registered at Google Domains would it still be lost?

  • Whoops, sorry. The domain’s registration won’t be lost, but it won’t direct to the site anymore.

Could the sites owner be added to this discussion? Could I send her a link?

Or what would be the easiest way possible for site’s owner to make the request.

  • If the sites owner were to reply here requesting that you be added to the site as an admin, we can do that for them, but for security reasons, we will need to see the request from them.
