New blog posts not reaching followers?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I changed my blog name a few weeks ago, and it is still showing the same followers. (not many!) However, new posts appear to be viewed less and less with each new post? Older Followers who would regularly view posts before the ‘blog name change’ no longer appear to see my posts on the reader? Even allowing for the (very real) possibility that my content is poor, I’m surprised at this tail off from an already low base!
    Cheers, Aaron

  • Hi there,

When you change your site’s address using our address change tool, all your followers are moved over automatically, so those people who followed your site in the Reader are still seeing your posts there, and those who used to receive them via email are still receiving them. I double checked re the Reader, and all your posts are appearing there as they should.

Views fluctuate over time, and looking at your site stats the current dip does not appear unusual in any way – I see many days where you’ve had fewer than 5, and even no views, even before you changed the site address. Changing a site address does result in less traffic from search engines for a few weeks, as search engines need to re-index your content at the new address, which might be a factor here. But I don’t see anything wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I suspect I’m just not a very good judge of what makes engaging blog content! All the best.

  • Don’t worry too much about it. As I said above, views fluctuate, but as your follower count grows, and as search engine hits start making up a bigger percentage of your overall views, those fluctuations should become less severe. Just focus on publishing new content regularly, at least a couple times a week, and you should see you traffic gradually start to stabilize.
