  Hi,
  1) I wonder if I can start with mapping a domain, then later on transferring?
  2) if I end up mapping, can I still use WP templates and spruce up the site, add my own video, pics etc….

  Yes, you can. And if you mapped your domain using the free domain credit in your plan, there will be no additional cost if you later transfer the domain, provided you transfer it more than 60 days before the mapping upgrade expires.

  2) if I end up mapping, can I still use WP templates and spruce up the site, add my own video, pics etc….

  Whether you use a free WordPress.com address, map a domain, transfer one to us or register one with us makes no difference – you’ll have access to the same themes and features on your site regardless.

  The only exception is before you can install third party plugins or themes on our Business Plan you need to have a domain connected to the site using one of the three available methods – that cannot be done on the free address.
